Sarawak Broadband Services was launched by its Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. George Chan Hong Nam in Miri in December 2006 in conjunction with the National Broadband Plan, initiative to meet the 75% household demand for the broadband services by 2010.

In Feb 2007, the Sarawak Chief Minister announced that the State would improve the broadband services by achieving 50% broadband household penetration rate within next two years. In order to achieve this, the State government is working with the private companies such as the DANAWA and SACOFA to provide free broadband services free for the first two years.

DANAWA and SACOFA, called the DeConnexion project, has so far completed 80% of the coverage in Miri which will be declared as the first WIFI city in the country.

So far, DeConnexion has been implemented in the populated areas of Sibu, Mukah and Betong and will cover Kuching by the first quarter of 2008.
