In the last 40 years, many social infrastructure facilities have been built in order to benefit Sarawak’s people, with priority being given to the development in the aspects of education, health, housing, spiritual, cultural, and sports.

The Sarawak government’s policy of developing education has lead to thousands of primary and secondary schools being built all over the State, including rural areas. A number of private and public higher institutions of learning have also been developed in the State.

Sarawak’s literacy rate has now increased to 85 percent. The State also has several institutions of higher learning, such as University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), University Technology Mara (UiTM) and University Putra Malaysia (UPM), and several private-run institutions, including Curtin University, Swinburne University, Tun Abdul Razak University, Limkokwing University, Stamford College, Cermai College and INTI College.

More information about the education system in Malaysia is available on the official portal of the Ministry of Education Malaysia.
